We have a Lawn Care & Landscaping business and have obtained 20+ accounts by posting our business on our local Craigslist site. You wouldn't believe how many people do their business on Craigslst. Also, word of mouth has been our best Friend. Ask your current customers to pass the word on for you and offer incentives like a free mow for referrals. Another thing we have found to work is to put little signs in our customers yards saying, "such and such company services this lawn." These signs are under $10 on Vista Print online. Also, post your business in the yellow pages and on Google. Last but not least, try to obtain all of the yards on one street. Give the people on the entire street a great rate on their lawn since there is no drive time or gas usage between homes. You can sometimes find enough homes on one street to keep you busy an entire day and never have to leave that street. We average about 5 leads from 100 flyer's, not 5 accounts, 5 leads. Good Luck!

Make friends with people at your local nurseries and ask them to give you referrals. The nursery might let you leave some business cards that they can hand out. Cruise the neighborhoods where new houses are being built and make friends with the contractors who might then hire you to landscape the new lawns for them or might refer you to the new homeowners. If a new commercial district is under construction, you might find business there too. Make friends with your county extension agent and local Master Gardeners club members who also might be sources for new business. Join the local Kiwanis club. Always have business cards on you and make available lots of photos of your completed jobs along with names and phone numbers of those customers who will give you good references. Contact local realtors who might want you to landscape a property to have more 'curb appeal' so that it will sell quicker, or the realtor might know of some new homeowners who want to re-do the landscaping on the old house they just purchased.

Go back to your existing customer base and offer them a free planting, an hours worth of cleanup, or whatever, for referrals. Nothing works better than satisfied customers talking about you.
