  The New Jersey Association of Paramedic Programs is an association in the state of New Jersey that oversees every paramedic program in the state. All programs are hospital-based and can be found within driving distance of every city or town throughout the state. NorthSTAR and SouthSTAR are two organizations that offer statewide paramedic training. Other counties have individual training programs through hospitals and medical centers. Get accepted into the training center. While paramedic training centers aren't highly selective, they do still have an application and acceptance process. The requirements may vary slightly by county, but still contain most of the basic standards. Obtain the proper training. In the hospital setting, aspiring paramedics will receive all they need to know to be successful on the job. Paramedics will go through basic coursework that covers everything from trauma to cardiac emergencies. Students will also learn about emergency skills and how to manage respiratory issues. Some time will be spent in formal courses while the rest of the time will be spent in the emergency room or on an ambulance. Put in the necessary hours. The Mobile Intensive Car Unit requires New Jersey paramedic students to commit to 375 hours of in-hospital clinical instruction followed by at least 500 hours of field internship. After that time, students will be eligible for the certification process and will be able to work as paramedics. Receive certification. Like any other state in the United States, New Jersey requires students to become certified paramedics before working in the field.
