How do you become a switch technician?

Is it possible to become a RN and then switch to being a veterinary nurse/vet technician?

  • ...is it possible to do this without having to go through years of more school after becoming a RN??

  • Answer:

It would be a waste of time to become an RN if you really want to work in a vet's office. Decide what you really want to do. Don't take a clinical spot away from someone who truly wants to be a nurse if you have no intention of working as one yourself. It's just not ethical!

of course not - what would you know about animal anatomy, etc?

No, you would still have to attend a vet tech/nurse program (people nursing does not teach you how to take care of animals!). Anythime there is licensure/certification; the pre-req is almost always "graduate from an accredited program in (that field)..."
