What is the difference between a LPN and a RN?

What is the difference in a LPN and RN?

  • I would like to become a nurse and was wondering what the difference was and also, the difference in their pay? Thanks so much.

  • Answer:

I think it's a great idea to become and work toward your LPN so you can get your foot in the door and have a great experience as an LPN. Rn's have a little more say and power as far as signing certain things, flushing PICC lines, pushing IV meds, that sort of thing, which varies depending on what state you live in. Rn's make around $22.00-$27.00 an hour, but I do work in a geriatric setting, which usually pays more. Best of luck to ya!

an LPN cannot do as much as a RN and there is about a 20 dollar pay difference. You only have to go to school for about 24-26 months to be an LPN. RN is 4 years. But you can be a LPN and then continue on in school to be a RN.
