  • Answer:

First of all, you can't do a 4 year degree at a community college--an associates is a 2 year degree. For the ER in the US you need to be an RN-that's about it. You get on the job training. While they do require ACLS (CPR) that is a 2 day class often incorporated into the ER orientation. All the hospitals I have worked in do not require any further formal courses or classes to be in the ER. They do an orientation (which maybe a few months) and some do a new grad orientation that is 6 months. It is up to the individual ER whether they want associates degree RN or bachelors degree RNs (4 years at a university). The classes you would take in high school would be your gen ed & science ones. I would look at the web page of a nursing school by you to see a sample of the type of pre-reqs & curricula you would be doing in nursing school.
