Like any creative job, it can be great if you are good at it. If you are useless no one is going to want to pay you money. Example, I can write a perfectly functional website using compliant HTML, cascading style sheets or whatever. However, I haven't got an artistic bone in my body so the end result will not look inspiring, it will not drive people to buy. Companies need someone who can build a website that will both function and SELL
