Answer:
What Are the Duties of a Census Taker? Census takers usually work in their own communities, going door-to-door, conducting brief personal interviews with neighbors, helping them to complete their census questionnaire. What will I do? As a census taker, you will: * Locate households * Explain the purpose of the census * Conduct brief personal interviews with residents * Record responses on paper forms What is the work schedule? Work schedules for census takers typically include 20 to 40 hours of work per week. However, actual work hours per week and length of employment are subject to work availability, which is highly variable. A census taker's employment may end at any time due to lack of work. Also, you must be available to work when people are usually at home, such as in the evenings and on weekends. Go to the Census 2010 website and read ALL of it. Take notes on important things. As you read, write down questions you have about the position. Come up with at least 3 questions to ask the interviewer. Memorize your questions. I'd say you're interested in the position because: you're a very safe driver, you enjoy communicating with and getting to know people, you'd like to meet more people in your community, and you'd like to serve the government. Also, tell them how your work background will make you an amazing Census taker. For example: you worked in customer service, so you have excellent customer service, listening, and communication skills. Maybe you were an ambassador at some point, so you have experience meeting any new people. Tell them you're extremely reliable, a self-starter, able to function independently. Wear a black suit, button up shirt, and black shoes. If you don't have a suit coat, just wear black pants, button up shirt, and black shoes. Don't feel nervous if you're overdressed, it's better to be overdressed than under, and you need to separate yourself from the pack. Get the interviewer's full name with spelling before the interview. When they come to meet you, greet them with their full name. Right after the interview, like when you get in the car, jot down any notes about the interview, maybe a unique thing you have in common, then when you get home, write a thank you email and include that unique item so that they can remember you. If you have a website with your picture and resume, send them a link to that site with the thank you. That way they put a face to the name. Good luck!
