Hatteras, NC is a sweat spot. And if your into surfing its a great for that also. Camping on the beach is prohibited, but you can literally throw a rock and hit sand from the campsite. When I went I think it was about $30 a day for a tent set-up.

big sir in california is a really fun place to go. your not exactly on the beach but its like a drop away and the camp sites are really neat. they also have bathrooms nd showers. the ride there is a bit curvy but its not a big problem unless you u get car sick.
