What happens to your body when you die?

Like any dead thing, it starts to decompose almost immediately. Ever had meat go bad in the fridge? You would smell like that in a couple days if not refrigerated/embalmed.

First your blood stops moving, and many times it pools in certain areas of the body depending on how it lays. Often time this will happen in the skull, and your brain may or may not liquify. Because of the wide spread ischemia (lack of oxegen) all of your cells undergo rapid necrosis... where many of the cells burst open, spilling their toxic contents on the exteriors of other cells around them. All cellular machinery shuts down, many times freezing in place. And thats pretty much it until you are buried or cremated. If you are cremated all the fuels are burned in your body, and all the water is boiled out. What is left is ash, basically carbon soot. If you are buried first you are embalmed. Your blood vessels are drained of all blood, and in its place a preservative fluid is injected. This helps slow the decomposition of your body. Even then, this process cannot stop the decomposition. Over time your body will dehydrate and rot. Over hundreds of years the flesh slowly melts away, and the only thing left are bones. This is of course if your casket remains intact.
