What do you think about Bollywood versus Hollywood?

  • We all know how popular Bollywood movies are in India... and also across the world. But are they good enough when compared to Hollywood films? So who is the winner, Bollywood or Hollywood? And do you think Bollywood films are just copying Hollywood?

    Copying accusations are generally overblown. When Hollywood films rip off scenes, they're "paying homage". But apparently Bollywood isn't allowed to do that. Of course, many Bollywood directors (Sanjay Gupta, Abbas-Mustan) often do, in fact, shamelessly rip off other films. But it gets blown way out of proportion. And a big part of the difference is the audience. Indian audiences don't appreciate truly good films, but rather sappy love dramas with the likes of SRK prancing around. So less good films are made in mainstream cinema. Off the top of my head, here are some older Bollywood movies that are world class: 1. Pyaasa 2. Do Bigha Zamin 3. Mughal-e-Azam 4. Chupke Chupke 5. Anand 6. Deewar 7. Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam 8. Zanjeer 9. Sholay 10. Mother India And here are some newer ones: 1. Satya 2. Black Friday 3. Company 4. Gangs of Wasseypur 5. Lagaan 6. Swades 7. Salaam Bombay! 8. Udaan 9. Omkara 10. Earth 11. The Blue Umbrella 12. Maqbool 13. Paan Singh Tomar Of course, there are many more.

Its not about comparison. Hollywood directors are not going to direct for Indian audience nor neither do we. We are Bollywood because we are Indians or else we would have been named as Hollywood.. Won't we? Respect our originality. We don't write novels to be screenplayed as cinema. We don't have pop stars to take care of music section. If a person is handicap it doesn't mean that they are unfit. So my verdict is Yes,Hollywood is better than us but thats because of their circumstances and opportunities are better than us. Accept that. No comparison. Hollywood is the way it is and so as we, Indians.. Bollywood
