What will happen when the ice caps melt?

What will happen when the polar ice caps all melt?

  • Answer:

Ice can contain ancient viruses or gases. When melting, these viruses could be released in the air. Also, the ozone layer would be suffering, because of the gases that would be released by the melting ice. Sea levels will rise, all land beyond ?meters will be covered by water. New-York would have a huge problem, because it would be covered meters under water...

Nothing at all. They have all been melted before. Where do you think the ancient Egyptians got their maps that show the rivers under Antarctica? These ancient maps match exactly the radar images we have from satellites! Imagine that!

The oceans would move 50 meters inland. This means anything that was lower than this level would now be sea floor. When the poles are located over water, the climate would be warmer than it is now. Would could do some interesting exploration of Antarctica though.

sea levels rise, the reflective ice will be gone so we will absorb more infrared energy from the sun, it will be warmer and hopefully Wisconsin will be the new tropical wonderland of awesomeness...

The ocean levels will continue to rise, the mean temperature of the oceans will increase thereby creating more hurricanes, coastal property will move much more inland, food will become scarce, and the food chain will be disrupted. Just another good reason to change our system of gasoline to earth-friendly resources.
