  • I'm 16 and having a terrible High school expierence. I would like to be home schooled but I may not have the finances for it.. So your help is much appreciated. How would I get ...show more

  • Answer:

If you live in america this won't be very hard, of course I am young and my mom did all of the paperwork but I get homeschooled for free... I got to Connections Academy, and it is said to be 100% free and they give you a computer to use, a printer, and some amount of money to help pay for your internet connection... There's also QDA but I don't suggest too many people to them because they're quite unorganized but they will give you a laptop to use for school instead of a desktop like Connections academy but with a school computer you have alot of restictions that you have to go by... :) hope that helps!

I see from your other question that you are in Michigan. You are very luck to live in one of the easiest states to homeschool in. All you have to do legally is with drawn from public school. This page has links to MI laws and lots of MI specific info. Also check out the beginning to homeschool info on the main page: http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/regional/Michigan.htm Please ignore the first 2 answers. Local schools do not provide homeschooling for free. If they are receiving schooling through a public school program, then they are not homeschooling. Instead they are public school students enrolled in virtual/cyber or distance education charter schools or they are on a home bound program due to an illness, physical disability or mental disability. ETA: Programs such as Connections Academy and K12 that are provided to the student for free are a type of public schools. No matter how you slice it, they DO NOT fall under the homeschool laws in any state in the USA. Stating the truth is not "talking down on" on anything AllStar. You can insist that I am wrong all that you want to but a simple check of the website for your school shows that the school you are enrolled in is a public charter school: Copied and pasted directly from their website: Commonwealth Connections Academy is a free public cyber school serving students in grades K–12. http://www.connectionsacademy.com/pennsylvania-school/free-online-public-school.aspx ETA: I have never talked down on Connections Academy. In fact I have always said that it is better of the virtual/cyber charter schools out there. Allstar my issue is with you and not the school you attend. You insist that Connections Academy charter schools are homeschooling and you insist that they are available in every state. You have even stated that it been available for years in MI when I linked directly to the information proving that this year is the first year for virtual charter schools in MI and that the only one that was approved was K12. You even accused me of not knowing how to operate a computer/web browser when I pointed out that one link you claimed to be for MI Connections Academy did not work. I even linked to the proper page for the school and showed that it was not in operation. ETA: No Allstar, Connections Academy is not in the process of setting up a cyber/virtual charter school in every state that does not already have one. In many states cyber/virtual charter schools are not allowed by law. Also in a few states where K12 has been approved first, Connections Academy is having a very hard time getting approval. There is a lot of speculation that K12 is behind the problems that CA is facin. After reading some of the denials that CA has received on their GA charter applications I tend to agree with that. Please look up the homeschool laws and the charter school laws for PA and then you will clearly see that homeschooling and cyber charter schools are not the same thing. No of course I am not a CA student. I am a 42 yr old parent with 9 years of experience homeschooling my children. I am also an avid supporter of Connections Academy's right to establish a cyber/virtual charter school in the state of GA and any other state that allows cyber/virtual charter schools. I oppose K12 attempt to undermined the establishment of any competitions. However I am also very passionate about keeping homeschooling available as a legal educational alternative. Blurring the lines between cyber/virtual/distance charter schools and the legal definition of homeschooling only causes confusion as is clearly demonstrated by your lack of understand the legal difference between the 2 educational options. This blurring of the lines has led to proposed stricter legislation of homeschooling in several cases. The mindset of many government bureaucrats has become "We have greater control of the cyber school homeschoolers than we do of other homeschoolers. We must close this gap." Keeping a clear distiction between the 2 types of schools protects both options.

really, home schooling does not cost you anything. all you need to do is get in touch with a school district, which is usually located in one area, and they will hook you up. i know this because i home school.

it depends where you live... for me it's free because they offer correspondence courses.. so what happens is I work on them independently without going to school.
