Is there any way i can get an interview with an pilot? I live in Los Angeles, California.?

  • I need the interview for a school project. We have to interview someone in our desired future profession.

  • Answer:

Sure. Call your local flight training school and arrange an appointment. The flight instructor is a licensed pilot and they are always looking for student pilots.

If you are trying to make contact through Yahoo!Answers, remember that there are lots of fake pilots here, and you could waste a lot of time talking to people who really don't know anything about aviation, airplanes, or the flying profession. So be sure and check the person out, first. If you mean you want to interview an airline pilot, the best way would, in fact, be to contact the Human Resources department of a major or regional airline in your area and ask if they could put you in touch with one of their pilots. That will protect you from people who claim to be pilots but really are not. When I flew for a major international airline, we flight deck crew members would get a memo each year asking us if we would be willing to give a day of our time to go out to some high school or community college to be a speaker at a Career Day. They especially wanted women to do this, to impress on young girls the opportunities that are opening up for us. So an airline might help you find someone. If you prefer to go directly to someone who contacts you from here, ask them to show you their credentials. Look at their pilot's license and ratings. If they "left them at the house," assume the person is not a real pilot, and take everything with a block of salt. If the airlines won't help you, you could find a local charter air service and ask to interview a staff charter pilot. You can find some pretty experienced pilots that way, and they will know a lot about the industry. Most pilots who are real professionals are happy to help a student achieve in school and love to talk to young flying enthusiasts. So good luck, and don't get fooled!

Does it have to be face-to-face or can you do it over the phone? Call up an airline office and tell them what you are looking for. They will probably help if it's for a school project. Also, ask your friends and teachers if they know of pilots. Myself, I know three - but they are all in Canada. You could also ask at the local library - sometimes they have speakers come in and talk about different things - they may know of pilots who have helped out. Ask at the school board as well. Maybe they have had a pilot come in. Ask at a travel agent... Or just call the airport authority. Someone will help!

Do you need it face to face, or over the phone or internet? If you need it, I can give you an interview through email. I've been flying for 25 years.
