  Compound bows use pulleys to make the draw and release easier. They are very expensive if you want a good one. If you want to learn archery from the ground up get a simple recurve bow. You can use recurve bows for target archery or hunting and a good bow needn't be very expensive. They are much better to learn archery with and much easier to take care of. The best way to get a bow that suits you is to go to a good sports store and try some. You will get good advice about what draw weight and draw length suits you best and what length of bow. When you get a bow that fits you then you can shoot with it. If you get the wrong bow you will have a lot more trouble improving your skill with it. Have a good time.
