How do I use a crank bait?

Can you fish with a crank bait from piers and have success. Read Below?

  • I'm in tampa and going to do some fishing from the beach or a pier. Could I use a crank bait and have some luck. Or if not should I use shrimp?

    You will have your best luck using live shrimp with a saltwater Slip-bobber Rig, (shown here)- http://on.aol.com/video/how-to-rig-a-float-slip-bobber-rig-109319072 You "could" catch a fish with a Crankbait- it is possible. But your odds are extremely low- or at least much lower than when you use Shrimp or live mullet, mud-minnow, Etc. Another excellent Rig??? 1/2 OZ (white) Jighead with either a live shrimp OR a 4 1/2" strip of Mullet. Another major tip?? Whatever rig/lure you use you would be wise to use Fluorocarbon leaders. The water around Tampa is (usually) very clear. Having an "invisible" leader can be vital to catching fish.

yes you can --n i walk bridges and piers with crank bait or chicken feathers ,, just throw it out and start walking slowly up and down -- boom you got him ~~! a nice snook ~!

Im assuming saltwater? I fish off freshwater piers (lake michigan) and i normaly will use a 3 way rig with a drop shot and a worm. For saltwater use some kind of live bait on the 3 way rig. And yes a lure will work the same off a pier as it would a boat. Ive only caught one fish on a lure wich was at a abandon pier in a forest (smallmouth bass). But genraly you catch more fish with live bait so i would recamend that. And a pier would be a wayyy better option than fishing off the shore of a beach. Just dont fall in the water like i did and you will be fine.
