    In the past, and even yet, academics would talk of Celts, pronounced with a K. But the football team was founded and supported by working class people. They pronounced it as it reads as though it started with a Se. Just one of those things. "Sure it's a grand old team to play for..."

LF has given a perfect answer. I too have read this reasoning in a Celtic history book. So the answer is to avoid confusion or upsetting anyone. Besides the fact, we are Celtic people Scots, Irish, Welsh and Cornish so it was decided they would pronounce it with a 's' which at the time was quite unusual but its original too.
