How to become a wedding planner?

How do I become a wedding planner?

  • I love anything to do with weddings. Im planning my own wedding. What do I need to do to become a wedding planner?

  • Answer:

Having a degree in business administration may appear to be worthwhile, however, simply working with a caterer and various religious organizations, temples, will provide sufficient training to become a wedding planner along with developing some marketing skills involving menu planning, table settings, flower arrangements, liaisons with wedding photographers, etc. I'd recommend that you look for a wedding planner internship. Good luck!

Anyone can become a bridal consultant (a.k.a. wedding planner) all it takes is some research, wedding magazines, contacts, phone, business cards, and clientele. However if you would like to become a professional and successful wedding planner you will greatly benefit from educating yourself in all aspects of the business and receiving certification . There are classes that you can take on-line and through the mail. I know of a school named P.C.D.I. that offers bridal consulting classes for about $800.00. You get to set your own schedule and work at your own pace. I think the class is worth $800.00.

go to school for event planning...it's actually a major. not sure if it's a four year degree or if you can get it at a tech school. otherwise if you know of any wedding planners, ask if they need an intern and learn from experience. or you could ask friends/family to be their wedding planner for a small fee, work your way up and build a good reputation. However, I will say that with the economy, wedding planners are having a difficult time right now b/c people are looking to cut costs on everything, even weddings and wedding planners are not a necessity. My friend just got laid off from her event planning company in KC. But you by the time you build your reputation, you never know how the economy will be! Good Luck!!
