I was stationed in northern Bavaria for 5 of my 7 years in the US Army. My first duty station was near the town of Grafenwoehr. That was my favorite part to get away from when I could. My second duty station was Bamberg. This was an upgrade, because there were actually ways to get out of town on occasion. In Bamberg, I also liked walking downtown, in the part they called "Klein Venedig" (Little Venice.) Since I left, I've found out that the city is also some sort of a United Nations-designated world cultural landmark. I wouldn't mind going back there some day when my circumstances permit. You don't need to credit me for this. EDIT: I once visited that town, Dachau, to which another poster referred. To be precise, I saw the remains of the concentration camp which was there. My mind still goes numb if I think about it for too long.
