I am not studying in fashion but I am in graphic design/illustration. I can give you info from a design point of view basically you need a sketchbook filled with some fashion designs, ideas, even fabrics you like etc cut them and glue them into your sketch book, coloured pictures from books/magazines/internet get them into your sketchbook its basically like a scrap book. Then you need to draw/sketch your own ideas.
