Can't get sound only on HD Channels on home theater?

  • Answer:

Check your cable box to see if it is set to ouput bitstream (native surround formats) or PCM (good old stereo, decoded into surround by your HT). Make it bitstream. Then check the input on your receiver, be certain it is set to see bitstream or autodetect. If that does not work, reverse it, set all to PCM, see how that shakes out. Its not your cable, but it won't hurt to remove, reinsert it. Also, power off your receiver / cable box completely, remove the cords if you must. Sleep/standby modes have a habit of waking up cranky. Good luck!

Your cable box seem to be not recognizing all the audio formats due to the use of optical cable. You must set your box to auto detect and see if it works otherwise you need to buy HD cable which is specifically designed for HD channels. I am sure that the HD cable will solve your problem and will give you better picture and sound. BEST OF LUCK
