  • Answer:

as to your question, yes it is possible to get a cable that has different connectors on each end. But USB protocol for data exchange is entirely different from ieee1394, so communication will not be possible. i don't quite understand your problem. I have a JVC HDD camera and it saves the video as data files on its hard drive. It uses USB to connect to the computer because USB is the ideal protocol for file transfer. It is impossible for there to be a "dropped frame". Unless your USB port is corrupting data that it receives, you will get an exact replica of the data file that is on the camera. Your computer is transfering data hundreds of time a minute to its hard drive during normal use and never misses a byte. Why do you think this data transfer between drives is any different? If you are thinking that you have dropped frames because the computer monitor sometimes stalls, then you are mistaken. Check the received file after the transfer is complete in your video editor and you will find it plays perfect. A computer has lots of duties to perform even as the data is being received, and updating the monitor is a low priority so the display will sometimes stall or jerk. It is a display issue, not a file transfer issue.

Yes you can get one, http://www.usbfirewire.com/uadapters.html BUT DONT GET IT, they are a total wash out. you will still get dropped frames as USB 2 cannot keep up with the transfer rate. just copy your video files from your camera to your computer, if you are not getting a smooth playback then that will be your computer, struggling with the compressed video. there are two ways to cure this either, convert the video or increase the Ram, and turn off all your progs that are running in the background. There is a great little prog called EnditAll, it will shut down everything that is not needed. and then do the editing or what ever you want to do with it. Hope that helps RR
