8 will not work now that you have 9 partially downloaded. Unfortunately, thats one of the problems with 9 that they wont fix. (EDIT: that problem being 9 not downloading.) If you cannot remove 9 via add/remove, then you'll have to remove it manually. This is exactly what Yahoo! will tell you as well. The problem with this is that you will have to reinstall 8 and you will lose your current settings (such as the skin and any color effects for your font saved, and all your preferences), and you will also lose your archive logs. The first two arent so bad, annoying.. but easy to deal with. The last one is preventable. At least I think so. What you have to do is go into your C drive, then Program Files, and scroll till you see the Yahoo! folder. Open that, then the Messenger sub-folder. Open the Profiles folder, you'll see a folder with your Yahoo! ID on it. Move that to your desktop. If there are any others who have logs that they want saved, move their ID folders as well. Now back all the way out until you're looking at the Yahoo! folder again. Delete it. Yes, the whole thing. Reinstall version 8, then go aaaaall the way back in to the Profiles folder and drop all the ID folders into it. I have never done this before, but I think it should work. You might also want to open your archive and save them manually. You could just do this instead of dragging and dropping the ID folders, but you will still have to delete the Yahoo! folder.
