  Some are very good and some are cheap knock offs from China. Even the ones from China are different in quality and there is no way of knowing until after the unit fails. Turbo kits are the same way. Some of the kits are nothing but a box of parts and not everything needed to complete the project is included. Others are complete and these often include directions for installation. So if you are replacing an existing turbo, and stick in the same family using the stock turbo flange design the odds are that it will be worth what you pay for it. If you are trying to up-grade an existing turbo charger and can find turbos that match the factory flanges the odds drop on the turbo being good. But if you are trying to turbo charge a car from scratch and do not shop wisely- it can prove to be a very long term project. Having take this route myself- it is not something that is impossible- I do not recommend it. My project does work, but in the long run the extra money for a direct bolt on with instructions would have been a better way to go.
