What is a good bike tire pump to get for a road bike?

My favorites are the Topeak Peak DX and the Crank Brothers pumps. That Topeak model is durable, inflates quickly, and has the dual "smarthead" which is great if you switch between valves or ride in groups. It's slim and will mount to the frame with clips or stow in a pack. The Crank Brothers pumps have a handy built in guage, work with both valves with a simple twist of the head, and one model is short enough to safely tuck into a jersey pocket. The frame clip for these pumps is kinda awkward, but it works. Blackburn also makes very nice pumps and I used them for years. Just look for a pump that has the size and pressure rating that you need, and stay away from the ultra-cheap pumps. I don't like and haven't heard anything good about the newer ultra-mini pencil thin pumps, either. Novel idea to have a pump so small, but they aren't all that practical when it comes time to put them to use. I'm all about CO2 cartridges, too, but it's still wise to carry a pump for backup. They're nice and quick, but expensive to use if you get many flats. A pump takes longer, but a good pump is a sure thing and all you need to have with you.

Amen to "phoster." I have seen to many guys hit the road only to find out their cartridges are empty, and they are a one shot deal at that. There are some great small size pumps on the market, though it can be difficult to achieve 120 psi, it still beats the dickens out of walking, hitchhiking, or calling for a ride.
