I hate to answer with a question but... What model CR-V? Is it a manual or automatic? Can you give any details of where the sound is coming from when the car is idling? (Walk around the car and try to pin-point the location as best you can) Get under the car, pop the hood do whatever to see if you can get a better fix on where it's comming from, i.e. the engine, transmission, exchaust, etc... Edit: Any loss in power? To be honest I can't make a good guess without actually being there. It could range from a bad bearing inside the transmission to something as simple as a bolt being lose. Since your saying it's a rattle the most likely thing it could be from the exhaust system is the converter but usually there is also a lack of power when that has an issue, still it should be checked out. There's also the possibility of worn valves or lack of sufficient engine oil. Try using a higher grade of fuel and see if that helps. If it goes away you may just be using the wrong fuel or if your using 87 and 87 is recommended then there could be an ignition timing problem, carbon buildup or a problem with the ignition system. You'd be surprised what damage cheap fuel can do, which is why I usually run 89 instead of 87 in my old Civic lol. Becareful when/if you take it to a shop. Rattles or knocks aren't always easy to diagnose and some places may think it's one thing and it may actually be another.

Loose wouldn't change the sound - Might have a hole in it, or a gasket might of gone south. Take it to a muffler shop & let them tell you.... AND, if they tell you, there's no requirement you do anything about it. If you'd feel better, take it to a second place & see if they give you the same answer.
