  • Answer:

Ants attack others and defend themselves by biting and in many species, stinging, often injecting chemicals like formic acid. Bullet ants (the genus Paraponera), located in Central and South America, are considered to have the most painful sting among insects, although these are usually non-fatal. They are given the highest rating on the Schmidt Sting Pain Index. Jack jumper ants, Myrmecia pilosula, located in Australia have stings that cause fatality to a small number of people in the population, and cause hospitalizations each year.[17] A vaccine based on use of the venom extract to develop immunity has been developed.[

I had a large ant bite me between the toes the other day...it like latched on and I had to sort of pluck him off of me...it actually drew blood! I agree with you...bastard ants!

Actually, they are just tasting you to see if you are something that they might want to eat. If you don't move or brush them off in no time there would be hundreds if not thousands taking your flesh off the bones back to their colony! kinda creepy huh??
