Why do some people choose biology over medicine if they want to go into research in a human body-related field?

Answer:
A graduate degree in the biological sciences prepares you for a research career. This career could lead to research in a "human body" related field or some other biologically-relevant discipline. A medical/dental degree prepares you to work with patients in the clinic. While you can certainly do research with the medical background, it doesn't specifically prepare you for that like a grad program in which you'd spend most of the time learning/doing research. Since there are advantages to both tracks, some people opt for the dual MD/PhD, DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, or DMD/PhD.
