How do car radios work?

How do CB radios work and what is the point of having one in your car?

  • Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of them?

  • Answer:

Citizens Band Radios (CB) are 2-way radios that can be used to talk to others that have them, they were used by truckers to Communicate to each other and were popularized by "trucker movies" and tv shows (dukes of hazard). truckers use them to talk to each other, find out about road conditions ahead, to find directions to places they need to go, etc... they can be used to communicate with each other if you travel in a group of cars. A downside is the person you want to talk to must also have one. With the increase of cell phones, alot of people are getting away from cb's, truckers still use them but they are not as popular as they were.

Other answers

No monthly bill like a cell phone. They were used primarily as a communications device for truckers and people who spend a lot of time "on the road". Inexpensive and easy to install. Everyone else on the particular "channel" can hear your conversation. Everybody had them in the 70's because they were the "in" thing.
