Whats the relationship between between subs and amps and watts and that whole thing?

  • so im looking at some subs for my car but i really dont really know anything about it so heres my question whats the whole thing with how amps and subs work. and what about the whole ...show more

  • Answer:

k pretty much all in all a sub is ur speaker haha. it puts out the bass, to do this u need a power source to run it. thats the amp. the amp runs the subwoofer. now wattage is pretty much the measurment for how much it takes to run the sub. so example, u got a 500 watt sub. so u want a 500 watt amp. theres also ohms, 2,4,and 8 ohm. all u wanna do is match the ohms with the amp u buy. so another example is that, 500 watt sub 4 ohm, u want a amp thats rated at 500 watts and 4 ohms.

First, always go by watts RMS, never MAX or PEAK. The relation of output power and the impedance (ohms, resistance) of the load(subs) also plays an important role. See my site for more info http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com

Well if the maximum they'll draw is 800 each, you'd need a minimum of 1600w. Bear in mind that adding a sub will increase bass. If you don't add any tweeters or midrange, then it'll distort the music.
