Do spiders always spin their own webs, or do they dwell in abandoned webs too?

Answer:
I'm only a casual observer, my area is experimental physics, but I am sure that the colonial spiders one sees in tropical areas must dwell in abandoned web areas. I get the impression however that the cartwheel web spiders have such a clearly programmed sequence of construction that they might not break into the sequence by moving into an abandoned web. This could be totally wrong.
