What are some service jobs?

Most people seem to be aiming for service sector jobs nowadays, what is likely to happen in the long-run?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but people nowadays seem to attach negative preconceptions to those in the first and second sectors. And in the long-run, people might see the first and second economic sector as 'fall-back' jobs.  Would this also lead to further exploitation of cheap labour and a stagnation in growth of 3rd world countries? Are there any policies implemented in your country to prevent an overwhelming supply of workers for service-sector jobs and the low supply of first and second sector workers?

  • Answer:

You seem to have a false belief that there will be adequate first and second sector workers.  First of all, even if you were to send everybody to college, there wouldn't be enough jobs for them all.  Secondly, not everyone is suited to go to college.  (I'm not quite talking about intelligence, I'm saying that many people just are not cut for that sort of life.)  Third, skilled labor jobs are many times the most lucrative jobs for most people.  You can't move the jobs around the world like most jobs. So you will be able to work your whole life at decent wages. If you believe that jobs like Lawyers, Accountants, Engineers are "safe" from the world wide rush to the bottom you are living in a fantasy.  The only jobs that can't be outsourced are those jobs where you have to look the customer in the eye. Everything else is mobile. And will move to the lowest-cost place in the world.
