How do I delete my Yahoo email account but not messenger?

I don't want to delete messenger but I do want to stop using Yahoo mail. How can I delete the mail account ?

The only thing you can do is not use your e-mail account and Yahoo! will deactivate the e-mail account. After 120 days they will deactivate the account for non-usage. You will still have your messenger for the ID. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/account/account-04.html
