History of Western France?

What country has more interesting history Ireland or France.?

  • I guess I would pick France because I want to see France but Im not entirely sure I would like to do it all but I don't know lol

  • Answer:

No country has a more interesting history than the other. The two have much different histories, the Irish did not fall under the Roman Empire, and was largely ruled by local kings until the Norman Invasion. The French descended from a Germanic tribe who inhabited the Rhine river area until the collapse of the Roman Empire allowed them to go West. Both did their part in saving Western civilization, the Irish along with the Church kept literacy alive, and the French under Charles Martel defeated a Muslim Army who set out to conquer Europe. The Irish history in many ways is a lot sadder than the French history due to the oppression by foriegn powers, and the French History has more of an international feel due to France being a world shaker and mover. So neither people have a more interesting history, just different. If you want to visit France then by all means.

I assume this is for a school thing. In that case France would be more interesting. Its no question they've always been one of Europes big powers. They've had huge armies and navies. Ireland by contrast has had an interesting history to an actual historian or archaeologist, having been invaded by so many cultures and nations. But it has never really had a history of major battles.
