  • Answer:

Working on cruise ships is not for everyone, and there are so many components which influence the experience - that is why you get so many different views. In the end someone elses experience will not help you, since yours might be completely different, or you see the whole situation very different. It is 8 months onboard, 12 hrs a day minimum, but in the Spa you have actually some time off - (more than in other positions) For more info I recommend the below sites: http://www.cruiselinesjobs.com/ - for a lot of info on life onboard a cruise ship http://www.cruisejobhelp.com/ - for a professional evaluation of your CV, work experience and qualifications, lots of tips and info and your chances of applying for a job in the cruise industry. http://www.allcruisejobs.com/ - for the latest open positions onboard cruise ships. https://www.facebook.com/cruiselinesjobs?fref=ts - Cruiselinesjobs on Facebook

Helen, I have worked on ships, not as a beauty therapist though. depends on lots of things, nationality, i.e,we have very few Americans working on board because they simply won't work for the money, also most people are not prepared to put in the hours. Yes, you do work hard, you work everyday, but you do get time off. I did waitressing on ships, worked my *** off but it didn't put me off from going back. You cannot be lazy in this type of job and depending on where you're from the pay can be good. you heard mixed reviews because it depends on the individual, some people come back, others are not strong enough to do so. I say try it for yourself. passengers give their viewpoints, and yes, crew complain to them but in most cases the crew always come back.

Friend done it as a hairdresser, it is long hours for little money and you share a basic cabin with other staff - are you a qualified beauty therapist? It is very hard to get a job on the cruise ships unless you have exceptional qualifications and a lot of experience, Good Luck
