Answer:
well a P Mauriat is would be less than 1500 dollars (£1000) and is amazing for its price, but if you think thats too much, then I recommend keeping the Yamaha and upgrading your mouthpiece and perhaps crook. Of course this won't appeal to you so here's a few brands: -P Mauriat -Keilwerth -Jupiter(advanced, not beginner) -Yamaha(advanced) -Bauhaus Walstein -Trevor James -Yanigisawa(kind of expensive, btu well worth it) If these are too expensive I would recommend Elkhart or Trevor James "The Horn Rev II G" However, do consider just upgrading your mouthpiece, they really do make all the difference. Also I recommend moving on to Vandoren V16 reeds.

The best horns you can get (that are new) are going to be Selmer Paris (crazy expensive), Yanigasawa (quite expensive.. some are even more than the Selmer Paris horns), Yamaha (less expensive). You should look at a YAS-52 or YAS-62, in my opinion. The YAS-52 is Yamaha's intermediate model. It's quite good and will feel a lot like what you're used to already. The YAS-62 is a step up from that - it is Yamaha's entry-level pro model. If you want something that you can be proud of forever, take a look at Yamaha's Custom Z model. I have to grudgingly admit (as an owner of a Selmer Paries Serie III) that it is a great instrument. Many professionals use this instrument, and it is about half the cost of its counterparts in Selmer Paris and Yanigasawa. As for playing jazz.. you're not going to be limited so much by your instrument as by your chops and mouthpiece/reed selection. A good saxophone is a good saxophone, so I wouldn't worry about that in your selection. Check out www.wwbw.com to see what's out there and to compare prices (even if you don't buy from them, you can at least see some great reviews and get an idea of what is out there).
