Water heater drip pan?

New homkes required drip pan under water heater. How much would it cost to have pan installed on older home .?

  • In the process of buying a home and i would like for everything to be up to current codes.

  • Answer:

You can install it yourself with the help of a buddy. Shut off the water supply and drain the water heater. Buy a pan from home depot for about $12. Have someone help you lift the heater up while sliding the pan under the heater. From there you can run the overflow with pvc or heater flex out to where ever it can drain. In some states though you still have to apply for a permit and have the heater inspected before it can be considered up to code.
