When can you claim Jobseekers Allowance?

Can i claim jobseekers allowance after being sacked by my current employer?

  • After having been dismissed, but going to a tribunal for unfair dismissal, can I claim jobseekers allowance?

  • Answer:

As far as I was aware, you can sign on straight away because you didn't voluntarily leave your job. At least put in the claim, because they won't back pay and if you don't bother asking them, you may loose out on money! ANY time I have been let go or fired, I was able to sign straight away. Don't rely on Yahoo for this, please just ask or call the job centre and get confirmation and explain you are awaiting a tribunal. Particularly in those instances, you may be able to sign on without waiting.
