What's the difference between an RN and a practical nurse?

Is anyone a hospice nurse, or a nurse? How big of a difference is the pay for a RN associate degree to a BSN?

  • If your a hospice RN, can you tell me what you think about it?

  • Answer:

No difference whatsoever. An RN with just an associates degree cannot get into management.

The pay difference between ASN and BSN is not very significant, and if most cases there is no difference at all. A BSN is worth the effort if you plan to go into management or if you plan to pursue nursing practice at the advanced level such as Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Anesthetist. Hospice nursing is probably the least stressful area of nursing because all you have to do is keep the patients comfortable and pain-free. There are no IVs or a bunch of drugs and procedures or anything like that. You get to spend more time with the patients and most of the time they just like you to listen to them reflect on their lives and so on. Its not always easy because sometimes you get to know them very well and you get attached to them, and its kinda sad because you know they're going to die soon and they know it, too. The good thing about it is that you are there for them and you help them die with dignity.
