You can become an RN with either an Associate Degree or a BSN. Those people that work in daily contact with patients in a psych hospital or psychiatric unit ARE nurses; usually RN's. There are mental health clinicians, but that usually involves a Masters in psychology or a Masters in Social Work. Those people are also referred to as counselors.
