    My honest opinion is: to heck with what the folks in your community or your parents' social circle think. YOU are the one who has to live with YOUR career for the rest of YOUR life. Nursing and midwifery are honorable, respected and wonderful professions. If that is what you wish to do, then...that's the route you should take. When all is said and done, you need to be happy with the person in the mirror and your parents' social circle are NOT in the mirror.

it depends on what you want most. your parents can't stop you. it's your decision. if you really want to work with babies, then work with babies. don't worry about what the others think. it's your life, not theirs. i would say you should go for it!! i really hope things work out! Good Luck!!

I would get the foundation that med-school would provide. You may need it to get an overall understanding of everything. :)
