Do you get a better job because you have a degree from college?

Not everyone can be an accountant so I see your point. Obviously statistics show that those with college degrees make substantially more over their lifetimes than those without. Of course there are exceptions, just see athletes and entertainers. Of course there are many great jobs that require training but not college, consider a plumber or HVAC. Regardless, if you check at your local gas station I am pretty confident that they either do not have college degrees or are working on them.

Personally, I believe that a job is different from a career. In a job, you work for someone else. You do need a college degree to appeal to this person because degrees show a higher level of learning. In my opinion, though, you forget a lot of the stuff you learned in a classroom for a lot of professions. In a career, you can work in a specific field, either as a employee or self-employed. I believe each of the men you named did not move up in a company, but rather, started companies of their own. So, you don't need a degree to be successful, but you do need one to move up in a job.

Well it depends on you. All the above mentioned people are 2 or 3 people among 1 million people. Not every 1 can be bill gates or Steve jobs . You have to build up your own Future. If you have a college degree that is enough to get a job any where in the world. Best of Luck

Yes, you usually do get a better job. If you are Gates, Jobs, Buffett, etc, then it doesn't matter whether you do or don't. Ask yourself, are you Larry Ellison? You probably are not. But hey, the dude from Facebook went to college and he's fairly loaded now.
