Has anyone recenlty gone through the Penn Foster Medical coding and billing program?

    Penn Foster sure generates a lot of arguments pro and con. Some of the complaints are that you have to pay for the tests. Over what you already paid for the course. Many people warned about reading all of the fine print when you sign up. Some people thought they were paying for the entire program but were actually paying for one semester. Others were surprised that they did not receive textbooks even tho they paid their money..... turns out that you get "study guides and CD's" in the beginning. Before you pay the money, visit 3 doctor offices and ask if they will hire you if you get the PF certificate. If they say no, don't spend the money. If they say yes, sign up.

Sarah, I just want to say that it's a terrible idea to be paying all this money for something when you haven't even researched the job market. We say it on here on about a daily basis that there simply aren't enough jobs for the amount of grads these schools are churning out in billing and coding. Coding is now done automatically by many docs' computer programs. They transcribe and code at the same time. These programs can also generate bills that a solo billing person would then go over to ensure accuracy. Hospitals and private billing compaies are the best source of employment, but they can afford to be picky on who they employ and new grads with no experience and no get up and go aren't on the top of their lists. I say it on here all the time - if you were my friend asking for advice on biling and coding, I'd steer you away from it.
