How do I become a fire fighter?

How do you become a fire fighter or police man?

  • 1-What are the requirements to become fire fighter or police man? 2-WHo do I contact? 3-Is 25 to old to start?

  • Answer:

First off Firefighters and Police Officers are two wayyy different jobs. The fact that you are considering both makes me question your reasons for wanting to get involved in there careers. Probably job security right? thats what everyone is doing now that the business job market is in the crapper and the economy has made a turn for the worse. Everyone wants a gov job now, I dont blame you. No 25 is not too old, when i was in the academy we had alot of guys who were that age and older. I was the youngest in my class at 21. What you need to to is check and see what local police departments are hiring, and if they are sponsoring. this would be listed as a trainee position in most departments. Next I would look around for local schools that have criminal justice LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) academies. Most community colleges have them, and im sure your local comm. college is no different. It takes about 6 months to complete the Academy. Before you enter the academy you need to take a Physical Agility test that will be provided by the school, as well as a BAT test (Basic Abilities Test). The academy will send you to get a medical exam, a polygraph exam, a background check, and a psychological evaluation. After you complete all successfully, you will probably be accepted into the academy. The academy costs about $3500. They are normally 4 days a week 630am - 5pm, for 6 months, or some schools offer night classes for 9 months (times may very). After you complete all coursework and pass all exams, you will graduate the academy. Then you will finally be able to take your State Certification Exam. Once you pass that have fun job hunting as you are now ready to be an officer!! firefighter??.. Who cares.. i think they have a test on how to work a Tivo or DVR. LOL Good Luck

Police officer - a college degree (min. of an AA), a driver's license. Contact your local police department, and you're not to old. Fire fighter - same as police officer. Contact your local fire department.

Go to your city hall, police station, fire house, or any government building in your city/county.etc and pick up an application. I hope that you realize that both jobs are completely different. One takes brains and the other takes brawn. Brush up on your language skills while you are at it.
