  • Answer:

I am going for my CS degree and hopefully will be done by end of next year. CS and IT are not entirely the same thing. We do need to know programming languages. However, CS requires more programming and lots of math classes. I will have to take engineering numeric with programming in C and Mathlab after I complete Linear Algebra. In order to get into Linear Algebra, you have to meet the math requirements--completing the calculus classes! I personally think Calculus ll is by far the hardest of all Calculus classes. I still have the improper integrals in my head to this time because it was the hardest section I ever struggled thru. CS is more on softwares while IT is on hardwares. Check out the colleges' catalogs on CS and IT requirements, and from there, you can decide what is best for you.

The major names are sometimes a lil sketchy but for the most part if you wish to pursue a career in programming then CS is the way to go. IT, MIS, IS degrees are usually involve less programming and focuses more on broad and general technology. I am currently MIS management info systems and thats actually under Business. Other schools offer IT, IS, and for the most part it seems they are pretty similar.
