Shower with stitches?

Taking a shower after getting stitches?

  • I got stitches last night around 11:00 pm Central time, right above my eye. Doctors said not to take a shower for 24 hours, is it alright to go ahead and get in or should i wait?

  • Answer:

You will be ok as long as you don't get your face wet. Wash your face when you get out of the shower with a wash cloth and just don't get the area wet where the stitches are. The ame in not getting the stitches wet is to keep the likely hood of infection down. moist damp open skin is moor likely to get infected.

If possible, cover the stitches with a plastic sheet (from a plastic bag "Walmart Special"), tape it well and remove after showering and clean around the stitches carefully with a damp cloth. Been there done that....works like a dream come true!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would wait till morning if you can but if you really want/need to i would put a bandage over the stitches so that they dont get wet
