  I worked with a child with Fragile X for over a year, and I know a couple more. It's hereditary. Often, kids with autism are recommended for Fragile X testing, as having Fragile X can make you more prone to autism. But the treatment isn't different, so finding out if your child has Fragile X really just gives you some information on your genes and the cause of autism in your child. There are common facial features in many individuals with Fragile X. It seems to affect boys worse than girls.
