    id go for something around the 8'6" to 9' range so you can catch a ton of waves and have a stable ride to learn on. i wouldn't jump into the investment of a brand new board because you never know if you're going to like it as a long term hobby. it would be smart to start off buying a used board or a beginner board like a bic or liquid shredder.

a bigger board is better for begginers. it is much easier to ride and u will have much more fun of a time. try and get a softop or a 8 foot longboard.
