My little sister wants a Nintendo DSi for christmas but likes the games that are made for a Nintendo DS that don't come in the DSi, so do DS games work for a DSi?

Yes. DS games are the only games for the DSi except the ones you download from the DS Shop. There are no game cartridges just for the DSi. All DS games will work on a DSi.
