    D&D Online is free to play now. About 25% of the game needs a fee, but the rest is free access. On the other hand, look into the Blader's Gate series, which runs of DnD 3.0 rules. Neverwinter Nights and its sequel run on DnD 3.5. Both are based in Dungeons and Dragon's worlds, Greyhawk to be more precise. Neverwinter Nights 2 is still recent enough you can get a new copy. Also look at Dragon Age: Origins, since it runs on a similar system to DnD, with a few modifications. Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel also run off of 3.0 and 3.5 rules. They are set in the world of Star Wars, but long before the movies. (As in more than a thousand years more than likely.)
