How can I get involved in racing?

  • I am not talking about illegal racing, I mean something along the lines of being sponsored, I am 16, but scored perfect on the test, have been involved in a racing environment, but ...show more

  • Answer:

no one is going to sponsor someone who just started out. your going to first show that your good enough.. you're stupid for thinking that you can just start and pick up a sponsor from off the streets. I'm in racing and that's not how things work Oh and to retard that says national championships mean nothing is an idiot, if they didn't mean anything why would they have them?

Oh yeah, because racing crappy little karts around someone's dirt paddock is the absolute 100% guaranteed first step to a racing career. /sarcasm You are at the absolute bottom of the food chain, mate. You are NOT going to get a sponsor just because you've "never lost" in a race that's not even racing. No team in the world would touch you. The kids who've been karting since they were five, they're the ones with the sponsors, and rightly so. At 16 the boat has definitely sailed. A good kart will set you back around $4000, then there's probably another $1000 in apparel/accessories etc. Then you would have to kart and continously win to impress people enough to maybe get some very small sponsorship, and you would be up against karters much much better than you. I hate it when people think they're gonna be the next Formula One star just because they can beat their friends in crappy karts. You are showing complete disrespect to the sport of motor racing. EDIT: Oh, Jordan? Buster was being sarcastic.

You have to start your own program. No one will sponsor you if your just starting. The least expensive way to go racing is in a go kart but it still costs quite a bit. I suggest get a job and start putting away some cash to buy all your stuff. In the mean time i'd go to the track and volunteer to help out with another team. This will give you a ton of knowledge about the costs involved, technical knowledge and will make you some contacts inside racing which could be very helpful. If you focus a lot of your attention on your racing you can get out there and compete every season. Then who knows if you run well the sponsors might come knocking at your door. Good Luck

Yeah what the other said. Those bloody lawnmower karts you've tried are complete pieces of trash and don't even deserve the name kart. You can expect PROPER kart racing to set you back £10,000 per season in a fairly low level class. KF2 etc. will be a few HUNDRED THOUSAND per season. Single seaters can be half a million upwards... get the message yet? Racing is an extremely serious and expensive area. It isn't like football where any old idiot can be expected to be picked up if he's talented.
